After discharge, patients receive a bill at home outlining services such as room charges, medications, lab tests, diagnostic imaging services, and other expenses necessary for medical diagnosis and treatment. Other bills from physicians may also follow for their separate services such as performing examinations, surgical procedures, and interpretations of laboratory tests and x-rays. In all cases, you, not the insurer, are the responsible party for payment of hospital and medical services provided. Although you may have health insurance, you are responsible for your bills.
