About the Program
Residency Overview
Garden City Hospital offers an excellent community hospital-based training experience in adult neurology. GCH is an accredited Stroke Center and is affiliated with the Michigan Stroke Network.
The Neurology Residency is a four-year program inclusive of the PGY-1 year. Training centers around an active consult service at Garden City Hospital, with ambulatory care rotations at the International Medical Clinic at Garden City Hospital & Bloomfield Hills, plus specialized rotations at other affiliated sites.

Program Director
Ramesh Madhavan, MD, DM, FAAN

Dr. Madhavan is a graduate of Madras Medical College in Chennai, India. He completed his residency training in Neurology and a fellowship in Vascular Neurology at Wayne State University. Dr. Madhavan is board certified in both General Neurology and Vascular Neurology. Dr. Madhavan has been teaching since 2007 and is a member of the American Academy of Neurology.

Our rotation block diagrams are based on educational requirements established by the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). Our rotation curriculum includes:
PGY-1
- 4 blocks of inpatient Internal Medicine
- 3 blocks of Adult Neurology
- 1 block of Critical Care medicine
- 1 block of Night House float
- 1 block of Infectious Disease medicine
- 1 block of Cardiology
- 1 block of Emergency Medicine
- 1 block of Neuro-Ophthalmology
PGY-2
- 5 months of Neurology
- 2 months of inpatient Adult Neurology
- 1 month of Neuroradiology
- 1 month outpatient Adult Neurology
- 3 months of Epilepsy/EMU
PGY-3
- 3 months of Adult Neurology
- 3 months of Electromyography (EMG)
- 2 months of Pediatric Neurology
- 1 month of Movement Disorders
- 2 months of inpatient Adult Neurology
- 1 elective month
PGY-4
- 5 months of Adult Neurology
- 1 month of Pediatric Neurology
- 2 months of Neuropathology
- 1 month of outpatient Headache
- 2 months of inpatient Adult Neurology
