Meet Garden City Hospital Executive Chef, Nicholas Schmidt
Executive Chef, Nicholas Schmidt, came to Garden City Hospital with a wide range of culinary experience. Following graduation from the Schoolcraft culinary program in 1999, Chef Nick then took his talents to the Opryland Hotel and then Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. Joining the Garden City Hospital family in 2017, Chef Nick used his knowledge from the one-on-one experience he gained working with the high-caliber chefs and instructors at Schoolcraft College, to creatively adapt ingredients to different patient dietary needs. What Nick loves most about his position as Executive Chef at Garden City Hospital, is “the creative ability, freedom and challenge of using different ingredients, rather than butter or heavy cream that can be often used in other types of cooking, to meet patients’ dietary needs.”
The advice Chef Nick has for future chefs or anyone interested in culinary, is “to try as many different things as you can in this business. If you’ve never worked banquet before, try to get a job working in a banquet hall, to gain that wide-range experience.”
