About the Program

Residency Overview

This three-year program provides a broad clinical experience to general and subspecialty Internal Medicine within a community hospital setting. Residents may tailor their curriculum to prepare them for primary care IM or subspecialty residency training; outside electives are also available. ICU/IM call is scheduled on a tiered system. The program provides MKSAP and Uworld to all residents individually. DynaMed available online on Epic platform for immediate clinical reference. Program provides two other study guides picked by residents for collective use.

Program Director

Sujata Kambhatla, MD

Internal Medicine

Dr. Kambhatla is a graduate of Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College in Raipur, India. She completed her internship and residency training in Internal Medicine at Wayne State University. Dr. Kambhatla is board-certified in Internal Medicine and has been a member of our teaching faculty for Internal Medicine since 2000.

Dr. Kambhatla is the Chief of Staff at Garden City Hospital and the Program Director for the Internal Medicine residency program.

Academic Schedule

Daily morning report, noon lecture run by both attending physicians and residents, Wednesdays 2-hour didactics, Grand Rounds run by Wayne State University every Tuesday. Monthly there is M&M, Journal Club, COGMET lectures series from Michigan State University, Grand Rounds, Tumor Board.

Moonlighting – Requires permission of Program Director and compliance with ALL policies and procedures. No moonlighting during PGY-1.

Ambulatory Clinic – Once a week with a preceptor at an outpatient clinic. PGY-2 and PGY-3 one week block schedule between rotations. PGY-3 one month outpatient clinic block schedule. Ambulatory training incorporated through continuity clinic as well as office based exposure on subspecialty rotations.
