Outpatient Rehabilitation

Working toward a more functional, productive way of living.

For those patients who are able to perform daily activities with little assistance outside of the hospital but still have a long road to complete recovery in front of them, Garden City Hospital’s outpatient rehabilitation services are the best medicine. A team of experts will formulate each patient’s program based on their health issues and recovery goals. They will work together to provide each patient with a comprehensive outpatient rehabilitation experience that addresses physical, mental, and emotional concerns.

Outpatient Rehabilitation

Our Multidisciplinary team is our strength

Physical Therapy

A physical therapist (PT) provides treatment based on an initial evaluation, which includes an assessment of pain, joint motion, muscle strength and the ability to move functionally. Garden City Hospital’s physical therapy staff helps patients improve safety and independence when performing normal movement during activity. The physical therapist will work closely with patients and loved ones to provide education about safe and proper procedures for mobility. This education will enable patients to make further progress at home and help their loved ones provide proper support. We offer specialized LSVT Big therapy for patients affected by Parkinson’s disease, as well as other neurologic impairments. Certified Lymphedema Therapists provide specialized therapy to individuals with lymphedema and/or related disorders.

Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapists (OT) will teach patients to achieve the highest level of independence and safety in routine daily activities. These activities may include, but are not limited to, feeding, dressing, grooming, toileting, bathing and home management skills. The OT evaluates strength, coordination, sensation and ability to provide self-care, and designs a treatment program to meet each patient’s unique needs. Safe and proper procedures for self-care are emphasized. The OT may recommend new techniques and assistive devices that can be used in performing daily activities.

Speech Therapy

The speech-language pathology department addresses understanding of speech, speaking, reading, writing, thinking, and memory skills needed for everyday activities such as phone use, banking skills and following directions. In addition, the speech language pathologist is trained to help with swallowing difficulty due to accident or illness. We offer LSVT Loud therapy for patients affected by Parkinson’s disease, as well as other Neurologic Impairments.
